Periodic cellular metals (PCMs) have regular topologies. Their irregular topologies inevitably result in lower strength and stiffness. Foams are cellular metals with stochastic structures composed of open or closed cells. This page reviews various wire-woven metals, topologies, fabrication processe and applications. Wire-woven metals are unique in terms of their topologies and mechanical properties compared to previous cellular metals. These new types of cellular metals are named ‘wire-woven metals’. Textilecore was proposed as the ï¬rst type of wire-based truss-like PCMs. The truss PCMs can be classiï¬ed depending on the topologies of unit cells fully triangulated pyramidal, octet, and Kagome trusses. And three types of PCMs are available: prismatic, shell, and truss. 1.įoams are cellular metals with stochastic structures composed of open or closed cells.
Depending on the conï¬guration of the cell structures, the cellular metals can be classiï¬ed as shown in Fig. Because of its lightness, unique mechanical and thermal properties, and potential for multi-functional applications, various cellular metals have been developed. €˜Cellular metal’ is the most general term used to refer to a metallic body within which any type of gaseous void is dispersed.
